Three Useful Beach Zones

Emba Filao / Dinarobin side

Le Morne Public Beach

GPS
-20.45169, 57.31329
Best for
Swimming, shade, families, sunsets, easy beach time
Food
Emba Filao is the useful restaurant landmark here. Expect nearby snack stalls or food trucks to vary by day and season.
Toilets / showers
This is the safest bet for basic public-beach facilities. Online visitor guides commonly list toilets, showers and changing areas, but treat opening/condition as day-of-arrival information.
Parking
Use the public beach parking areas and arrive earlier on weekends, school holidays and clear sunset days.
  • This is the easiest first stop if you want public beach time without entering a resort.
  • The beach sits near the resort strip, but the public beach section remains the key access point for non-guests.
  • Bring your own water and shade plan if you are staying for several hours.

Kite Lagoon Beach

GPS
-20.46000, 57.32000
Best for
Kitesurfing, wind watching, shallow lagoon, lessons
Food
Some kite guides mention a casual food-truck scene near the spot. Do not rely on it as guaranteed; bring water and snacks.
Toilets / showers
Kite-school infrastructure can be seasonal or operator-based. Public toilets are not as predictable here as at the main public beach.
Parking
Use established sandy parking areas and keep access clear for schools, rescue vehicles and local traffic.
  • Best for watching or riding when the wind is working; less pleasant for a calm swim if the beach is busy with kites.
  • Stay out of launch and landing zones unless you are with an instructor.
  • Beginners should use a school. The lagoon is beautiful, but wind, lines and reef awareness matter.

One Eye / surf and wave zone

La Pointe Du Morne

GPS
-20.46400, 57.31050
Best for
Experienced surfers, wave watching, advanced kite/surf conditions
Food
Plan food and drinks before you go. This is not the place to count on beach-side service.
Toilets / showers
Expect minimal infrastructure compared with the main public beach. Use Le Morne Public Beach for more reliable public facilities.
Parking
Parking and access are more informal. Keep to obvious access routes and avoid blocking tracks or resort/private access.
  • This is linked with the famous One Eye wave area. Treat it as an experienced-waterman spot, not a casual swimming beach.
  • Reef, current, wind and wave conditions can change the risk quickly.
  • If you only want a relaxed beach day, choose Le Morne Public Beach instead.

Before you go

Le Morne Beach Tips

The beaches are close together, but they do not all behave the same. Pick the spot for the day you actually want.

Facilities

Use Le Morne Public Beach when toilets, showers and changing areas matter. Kite and surf zones can be more informal.

Food

Emba Filao is the key food landmark near the public beach. Food trucks or casual stalls can appear, but do not plan around them as guaranteed.

Wind

A perfect kite day can be a less relaxed swimming day. Watch for kite launch areas, lines, reef, current and changing wind.

Parking

Weekends and sunset can get busy. Park only in obvious public areas and keep tracks clear.

Bring

Reef-safe sun care, drinking water, sandals, a towel, cash for casual food, and a simple bag for your rubbish.

Swimming

Swim where conditions look calm and local use is obvious. La Pointe and One Eye are for experienced surf conditions, not casual swimming.

Pair it well

Beach Morning, Mountain Afternoon?

If you are hiking, check access and conditions first. If wind, rain or trail status changes, the beach and lagoon can still carry the day.
